The Environment

Alpha Montessori School has established itself as a leading Montessori School in Westchester, Illinois, providing high-quality education. Our Classroom Setting

Our classrooms are designed to create an environment where children are able to work freely and choose their own activities from among the many materials on the shelves. Through the manipulation of these materials and the direction from their teachers, the children can unfold and explore the world around them.

The children are exposed to a full Montessori curriculum with seven learning areas which are the following:

1. Practical Life: These real life experiences are the beginning point of the Montessori environment.  They will help children grow independent, promote concentration, develop self-control, and a stronger sense of order.  The children will become more responsible by themselves, have self-confidence, and be independent.

2. Sensorial: Working with sensorial materials stimulates children to develop their five senses: seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling. The exercises are designed to refine the senses and help children learn to compare, contrast, and understand the world around them.

3. Language: The children will be immersed in a multi-cultural education in Spanish and English.  When children are exposed to a foreign language, they learn the language without effort and become better equipped to learn additional language later in life. Also, foreign language educates young children to accept cultural diversity and become better citizens of the global community.

4. Math: Children will learn the concept of the numbered and decimal system.  All math concepts are learned and internalized through the manipulation of concrete objects.

5. Science: Nomenclature cards, hand-on activities and actual implementation of science broadens a child's awareness of the abundance of science in their everyday lives.

6. Geography/Culture: Puzzle maps help children to visualize their world.  Children are encouraged to develop an awareness of their own culture and become accepting of others by learning diversity.

7. Art: The art is a staple in the classroom and is available at all times for the children's individual use. Numerous planned art projects are incorporated into our program throughout the year.
